Sunshine and celebrations

What beautiful weather we have had this week! After the Bank Holiday Monday wash-out, the long awaited sun has made a welcome appearance. It has really brightened everyone's spirits.

We have packed quite a bit into our four-day week. We started our week by thinking about Mary, Jesus' mother. During the month of May, we particularly think of Mary, and we ask her to pray for us as we know she is close to God. We looked at pictures of some important time in Mary's life and thought about how her devotion could inspire us to say yes to God's call. We are looking forward to our May Procession and picnic at Ladywell Convent on 22nd May.

Today, our Year 4 children are celebrating their learning with a 'Roman Day'. They have been transported back to Ancient Rome with the Now Press Play headphones, and they are making shields ready for battle! You can see them above.

The PSA baking competition was a great success. We have some creative and delicious entries. The winners received their prizes yesterday after Mass. George in YrR, Elliott Yr 1, Aurora Yr 2, Evie Yr 3, Emma Yr 4, Zach Yr 5, Arthur Yr 6 and the overall winner was Alma. Well done to you all!

Our Year 4 class took part in a special singing concert on Wednesday afternoon, organised by Mr Elson, who teaches singing to Years 3 and 4 on Tuesday afternoons. There were four local schools singing together and after a rehearsal, the children performed a concert for their parents. It was a lovely opportunity to share what they have learnt and perform together.

Very sadly, Mrs Nicholls leaves us today. Fr Jonathan celebrated Mass yesterday for the feast of the Ascension, and we thought about and prayed for Mrs Nicholls. She is an important part of St Edmund's and I can't really imagine our school without her here. She does so much for the children, from splinters to patching up countless bumps and grazes. She has often been the first member of staff new parents meet as she welcomes them to our school family. She looks after all the staff and has been inspirational to us all through her dedication to helping others. Thank you, Mrs Nicholls, we will miss you.

Have a lovely weekend,
